Gray Matter for my Gray Matter
Monday morning again, and soon I’ll be heading out for my 4th day of Sculpture I class at KSU‘s Art Annex building. Last Wednesday we worked with a live model, roughing in her features with clay supported by an armature we previously built. Today we will be continuing to define and refine our weighty gray creations, and I’m looking forward to it. Having never worked with these materials before, I’m finding it both challenging and relaxing. While I certainly wish to do a good job to earn a decent grade, there’s a refreshing lack of pressure. No client is paying me to make it look a certain way. Nobody needs it done yesterday. I have a structured time set aside to enjoy it without someone needing food or entertainment or a conflict resolved. Most of all, I haven’t been sculpting for 20 years, so nobody expects it to look remotely professional. I can focus on the task at hand and let everything else fall to the wayside for a while. It’s a much-needed break for my brain, and my gray matter can use all the help it can get!

Awesome Marge, I LIVE to build armatures, it’s a passion of mine !!! LOL
Creativity can’t be “Marked” in the same way math or social studies can but I’d give you a solid b+ for what you have done so far. The proportions and placement of ears and such look right on the money.
With your talents and skills this class should be a great expansion of techniques for you, another weapon in your arsenal if you will. You don’t have to master every avenue you pursue but if you absorb something from each method of creating art and combine them all into your chosen style it will bring out the individual in you and there will be some truly unique manifestations from your lovely Gray matter.
(in my best Mr. Burns voice) Eeeexcellent Smithers!

Thanks, Doug. I’m surprised at how hard it is to accurately sculpt what you really see. Much harder than drawing! But I’m pretty happy with the results, considering it’s my first time ever doing something like this. I brought mine home for the weekend with the hopes of finishing it up before Monday’s class. That’s when we get the demo for the waste mold process. I’ll post another pic when she’s ready for casting!
